Édouard Manet was one of the most important and experimental Realists/Impressionists, whose pieces, such as the one above, often courted controversy for the ways in which they played with the ideas of contemporary morality through the corruption of classical themes. I may as well not skip over the obvious and ubiquitous: Manet is constantly confused with astigmatic
Monet. If you compare them, the two artists could not represent more different dimensions of Impressionism, yet, despite their differences, those names seem to always tangle in certain mouths.
